SUSPECT NAMED IN NEWSMAN'S KIDNAPPING.(MAIN)

KARACHI, Pakistan -- Pakistani police have identified a prominent Islamic militant as a major suspect in the kidnapping of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, senior officials said Wednesday. They called it the biggest break to date in the case.

Sheik Omar Saeed, who was released from an Indian prison in 1999 in response to demands from the hijackers of an Indian Airlines flight to Afghanistan, is being sought by Pakistani police a day after they arrested several men who linked him to Pearl's Jan. 23 disappearance.
